Volunteers are a super important to our Bloomin Earth festival,  and its such a fun place of super friendly folk you might just feel the need to stay all day. No lie – its happened. The festival is this Saturday, April 26th, from 11am-8pm

We need helpers to:
Setup tables, chairs and tents in the morning – 8am start

Directing vendors to their tables – 9am start
helping put up decorations and signs – 8am
Directing shoppers in the clothing swap tent
Leading a craft
Back stage assistants, getting performers ready to rock – 10am to 7pm
… And just general helpfulness around the festival

So if you have a few hours to spare on April 26, send a short e-mail to remakeable (AT) gmail (DOT) com and I will be in touch you real quick to let you know where your skills will be used.

Super cold sunrise, downtown Kitchener via

that being said… have you submitted your application to be a vendor, volunteer, musician or fashion designer at our Earth Day Festival??

Happy happy vendors at Bloomin Earth 2012

see more on the Bloomin Earth website, under participate.

BUT now for a small request….

In the past we have received support from major community partners, but with economic changes and cut backs in their offices their donations have been reduced. They haven’t left us… they just cant help as much. Therefore we have applied to some grants and contests to help fund the festival. This more recent application needs YOUR help.

Please VOTE for our festival in the Intuit small business contest – help us keep the show alive!!

Kitchener has an earth day festival

24 Feb

Did you know Kitchener has an Earth Day Festival?? YES! Yes We do, and it’s quite an amazing one if I must say so myself…

This is our baby, and she’s eight years old now. Can you believe we started with only a small group of friends inside city hall? I think there were twenty of us back then, and now we see up to seventy crafters join us every year. The original plan was to turn this festival into one of those fantastic art-type shows crafters can only dream about, happening in big cities like Chicago and California … the ones that even if we could manage the distance, we could never profit over the fee. But my rule for our show – make it affordable. This is a startup city for many things , artist included. Most are just testing the waters or like myself, have a full time job.  So every year we brainstorm with a group of uber-crafty folk to make sure we outdo last years event, and keep it handmade right down to the setup and decor. As we enter our eighth year, i think this one will be hard to top.

This time around we have added more hands-on crafts and games which  usually intrigue the parents as well as the children. We have made more room for crafty vendors and environmental information stations. We’ve also shifted the show to later in the day to be sure even those working parents can make it out to some part of the show. This time change has also allowed more room for performers making for a full 8 hours of live music. Our REthreaded fashion show drew such a crowd last year  that we decided it needed a special time slot of its own – and to make a super special show of it – it will start at 7pm with all the fancy lights and setup of a real fashion show… and … we are leaving the judging up to the audience. We need you to decide on the winning outfit (PS. They will all be made using recycled materials created by local high school students and a few elementary kids) so are you as excited as I am yet?

Join us on April 26th from 11am to 9pm outside kitchener city hall for Bloomin Earth, Kitchener’s Largest Earth Day celebration!!

… interested in being a vendor, craft leader, performer, volunteer or even a designer in our fashion show? Check out the online registration for more details.

2013 in review

The WordPress stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 3,800 times in 2013. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 3 trips to carry that many people.

if you missed the show…shame on you. but since im such a kind hearted person i just couldnt resist to share the wonders of the day with you. this is just one of the bands who performed on the Bloomin Stage, with amazing accoustics i might add. the video doesnt do the sound justice — next year you will just have to be there to hear for yourself!!

this particular video was thankfully filmed by the band Drew Leith and the Foundations

my attempt to film the other performers was well… deleted by my awesome cell phone. lesson learned… hire a filmographer as well as a photographer!!
